Families have slowly adapted to the modern world, and they have replaced many cultures and practices to adapt themselves to the contemporary times. The fertility rate of women has reduced:
The fertility rate of women who belonged to the year 50’s and 60’s was about 3.7 children while today women have only an average rate of about 1.9 children. Families have become more modular, and people are satisfied with the lesser amount of children. Women started to focus on getting educated, and they began to work in different fields.
Stepsisters and brothers:
About 44% of young people who belong to the age group of 18 to 30 have step-siblings and about 16% of the people who belong to the age group of 50 to 65 have step siblings. More babies are born to unmarried couples in the current generation.
There have been a growing number of the same-sex couples who are trying to pursue parenthood. Earlier there were many cultural wars over same-sex marriages, but now people have started to accept it in a large scale, and there are many gay parents who have started to adopt kids to have a family.
Higher divorce rates:
The divorce rates have been a lot higher than how it was previously. Children suffer a great deal due to the divorce of their parents. The children who are sent to foster care have also increased on a large scale.
Many people started to marry from other races. America has a lot of immigrants, and many people started to marry people from other races and cultures. You will be able to see many families where one of the parents might be an African-American while the other parent might be an immigrant from Europe, Asia etc.
Two parent household have started to decline, and in today’s world, you will be able to see that there are many homes where there are only single parents taking care of the children. Kids of the modern family are mentally affected by this as they do not get the love and affection from both parents.
In the modern world, the Americans marry around the age of 27 to 29. But during the 1960s, most of the Americans got married at the age of 18 to 32 and 40% of the women of the age group 15 to 24 were mothers.
